Of Wolf and Woman

About the writer:
Erica J. Heflin has spent much of her adult life alternating between the worlds of animal care and comic fandom. She owned a small comic shop and aquatic fish store, aptly titled Comics & Critters Too in Largo, FL. She’s been involved in the independent film industry for many years and has written, produced, and acted in a variety of small projects. Most recently she wrote the script for Warbranch Production’s “Bikini Monsters,” which has since been featured on Sammy Terry’s New Nightmare Theater. Entering into the world of comic writing, she is tackling several mini-series projects that she anticipates will be available in late 2012. Her published work will also be featured in Grayhaven’s The Gathering anthology series. Currently she continues her work with assorted reptiles, raises two small children, and tries to keep an overworked husband happy.

About the artist:
Dale McKee was born in raised in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, California. He knew he wanted to be a comic-book artist when his parents explained to him that he could not aspire to grow up to be a real super-hero. Early influences included Japanese anime such as Star Blazers and Speed Racer, as well as TV shows like Star Trek, and of course comic greats Curt Swan and Jim Mooney. By the time Dale was in 4th grade, John Byrne had graced the pages of the X-Men and the world would never be the same. By high school, Jim Starlin had entered Dale's radar and remains a favorite.

Dale studied art at American River College, College of Alameda, and College of San Mateo. Mostly he just drew all over his class notebooks for other classes when he was supposed to be studying.

Eventually pursuing a career in graphic design, writing and game illustration, he'd just about given up on comics when Erica J. Heflin dragged him kicking and screaming back through the fourth wall. He still lives in the Bay Area with his wife, two children (who serve as his most skeptical art critics) and Australian Cattle Dog (who makes a great impromptu wolf model).

No Cattle Dogs were harmed in the drawing of this book.

Flesh of White

When an infant with albinism is selected as a Witch Doctor’s next victim, his mother must sacrifice all that she’s known to protect her child.

Rehema and Idi celebrate their son’s birth, but must weigh their hopes against unanticipated fears. Their son, Kwasi, was born with albinism.

In their home, the child is safe, but as the world learns of his existence, they will have to fight to protect him. Rehema and Idi live in a part of Tanzania where superstition and fear guide the hearts of man. Those with albinism are not looked upon as people, but instead are viewed as “ghosts”. They are maimed, mutilated, and killed for their flesh and used as components in spells.

When outsiders learn of the infant’s existence, word filters back to a local Witch Doctor. Rehema and Idi must take extreme action to keep Kwasi safe as The Doctor and his Harvester come for the infant’s white flesh.

Of The Grave

Part twenty-two is up and running on November 28, 2012. ENJOY and try to SOLVE THE MYSTERY! $50 dollar amazon giftcard to the first person who can tell me who did it and why! Send an e-mail with the information. I'll update when someone has correctly deduced the villain!

Though I discovered film noir in my college years, I've since found its visual style extremely appealing. Dark blacks and shadows contrasted against brightly lit profiles create stunning and moody imagery. The world is bleak and filled with pain. How much more interesting a message can two colors convey?

When I decided to try my hand at a true webcomic, I decided on a story with a clear beginning and end, but also one with mystery and crime. A hard-boiled noir story felt like the right fight.

"Of the Grave" will be released bi-weekly in 26 installments beginning in January.
